'Sack IGP' banner awaits top cop near
Bukit Aman
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar is in for rude awakening tomorrow when he sees a banner calling for him to be sacked. The four meter by 1.8 metres banner with 'Pecat IGP' (‘Sack the IGP’) written on it was hung at a junction across the street from City Hall at Jalan Raja, a stone’s throw away from police headquarter Bukit Aman.
It was put there as part of the #pecatigp campaign launched by Kita Lawan tonight.
"Sack the IGP! Step down (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak)!" they cried as they hung up the banner at about 10 pm.
The activists also set up an impromptu art exhibition by hanging photographs using clothes pegs and string and opening up umbrellas carrying anti-IGP messages.
One caricature of the IGP shows him holding a switchblade to the icon for microblogging application Twitter, with the caption “Bebaskan Twitter! (Free Twitter!)”.
The IGP has been under fire for using his Twitter account to police free speech online and instruct investigations on opposition politicians and activists.
He has also been accused of bias, for the lack of action against BN leaders such as Ismail Sabri Yaacob, who in a Facebook comment said Malays should boycott Chinese traders..
About 50 people attended the event tonight, which was held where Kita Lawan protestors have been camping since March 21.
"If the IGP doesn't step down, the country will be ruined and the police force's good name will be soiled," PKR’s Teja assemblyperson Chang Lih Kang told the crowd.
He then urged the crowd to flood Khalid's Twitter account with the message "Kita mahu #pecatigp" (We want to sack the IGP).
Activist Hishamuddin Rais announced that the Kita Lawan protest this Saturday will have three rallying points - Opposite City Hall, Masjid Jamek, and the PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut.
The protestors plan to then march towards Sogo before heading towards the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to gatecrash Najib's daughter's wedding.
