Plaza Hotel condo owned by the brother of Kazakh dictator Nursultan Nazarbayev has sold at a loss to a mystery buyer for $14 million, according to city property records.
Bolat Nazarbayev bought the unit in 2008 for $20 million.
The sale was first reported in the Real Deal.
The apartment drew attention when Bolat’s stepson, Daniyar Nazarbayev, who had power of attorney, signed his mom Maira’s name on the deed. At the time, she was married to Bolat. She then sold the deed to her son for $1 in 2011. They have since divorced.
Bolat sued Maira in Manhattan Supreme Court to get the apartment back. He charged that she and Daniyar also used his dime to buy some Wall Street apartments. In the suit, The Post reported that Maira, who used several aliases, was wanted in Kazakhstan and by Interpol for crimes including kidnapping and extortion.
The suit also alleged that Daniyar scammed his way into Columbia University by falsely claiming to have graduated from high school in Kazakhstan when in fact he was a Swiss high school drop-out.
Columbia still lists him as an alum, The Post reported.
The four bedroom Plaza pad first went on the market for $17.9 million in 2016.
It is 4,000 square feet, comes with an open eat-in chef’s kitchen, a formal dining room and a custom stained-glass chandelier.
