Funds deposited into Malaysia PM's accounts not donation, but investment: Saudi minister

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir that the funds were not a political donation from the Saudi government, but rather that they had been part of a business deal.

KUALA LUMPUR: Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir says he accepts the Malaysian attorney-general’s opinion that there had been no wrongdoing with respect to the funds that went into Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak's personal account.

But he also said he believes that the funds were not a political donation from the Saudi government, but rather that they had been part of a business deal.

“It is a private Saudi citizen, I believe, and the funds went to an investment in Malaysia,” the Foreign Minister said in an interview on Thursday.

A federal grand jury is examining allegations of corruption involving the prime minister, Najib Razak, and people close to him, according to two people with knowledge of the investigation

SPRM kepung balai polis

Butterworth: Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) Pulau Pinang terpaksa mengepung Balai Polis Ayer Itam dekat sini, sebelum menahan lima anggota balai berkenaan, awal pagi Sabtu.

Dalam serbuan jam 3 pagi itu, kesemua mereka yang ditahan dipercayai terbabit dalam satu kes rasuah.

Kesemua mereka ditahan ketika berada di dalam bilik balai berkenaan.

Pengarah SPRM Pulau Pinang,  M Samarajoo dipetik berkata, semua lima anggota berkenaan kini masih ditahan untuk siasatan lanjut berhubung laporan yang diterima pihaknya.

"Mereka kini ditempatkan di lokap SPRM untuk siasatan lanjut dan akan dibebaskan dengan jaminan selepas keterangan diambil," katanya.

Sementara itu, Ketua Polis Pulau Pinang,  Abdul Ghafar Rajab, mengesahkan serbuan dan penahanan anggotanya itu.
